Driver Mistakes Gas for Brake, Rear-Ends Tom Green County Deputy

A Tom Green County sheriff’s deputy escaped injury after his vehicle was rear-ended Monday afternoon on Sherwood Way. San Angelo police say the deputy was stopped at a traffic light near Pecos Street when a woman driving a Jeep Liberty accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. The Jeep struck the deputy’s vehicle, but the deputy was not hurt and was able to leave the scene. Police cited the Jeep driver for failure to control speed, expired registration and driving without insurance. Officers said the woman appeared confused, prompting them to contact Adult Protective Services to assist her. The Jeep was towed from the scene.
