Rabies Warning Issued After Dog Encounters Infected Bat in Bentwood

Health officials are warning residents after a dog came into contact with a deceased bat in the Bentwood Country Club & Estates neighborhood, and testing confirmed the bat had rabies. Officials say proper medical, health and safety protocols were followed for those potentially exposed. Residents are urged to keep pets current on rabies vaccinations and avoid contact with wildlife, especially bats, raccoons, foxes, coyotes and skunks. Anyone bitten or scratched by a wild animal should seek medical attention immediately, while sick, injured or unusual-acting animals should be reported to Animal Services at 325-657-4224.
