San Angelo City Council has approved a plan to seek nearly $862,000 in grant funding to step up efforts against vehicle crime. The money would come from the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority, with the city providing a local cash match. The funding would support four police positions, including investigators and a sergeant, along with new vehicles, a drone, and continued use of license plate reader cameras. City officials say the program builds on last year’s effort by expanding staffing and equipment. The council approved the measure without discussion. If awarded, the grant would cover the 2027 fiscal year.
