Texas lawmakers are being asked to study the possibility of adding two New Mexico counties—Lea and Roosevelt—to the state. State Rep. Carl Tepper says some officials in those counties have expressed frustration with their state government and interest in joining Texas. The proposal will be reviewed by a House committee tasked with examining the legal and economic implications. Findings are expected to be presented to the Texas Legislature in 2027.
