The cell phone restrictions recommended by Texas lawmakers will take effect for SAISD schools today, the first day of the 2025-2026 school year. House Bill 1482 will be used to restrict phone usage for students to help better engage them in the classroom. SAISD superintendent Dr. Christopher Morgan says, “It’s all about protecting instructional time and making sure we capitalize on our school day with our kids. But as far as using the phones, no use during the day.” During the next board meeting, members of the SAISD board are expected to formally pass the restrictions.
