A Concho County murder case is again drawing attention after Jeffrey Nicholas was booked back into the Tom Green County Jail. Nicholas is charged with capital murder for the 2021 shooting deaths of Concho County deputies Stephen Jones and Samuel Leonard in Eden. Investigators say the deputies were responding to a call about loose dogs when the confrontation turned deadly. Nicholas is also accused of shooting an Eden city employee, who survived after surgery. Nicholas was previously ruled incompetent to stand trial despite conflicting evaluations. Authorities have not yet said why he has been transferred back to Tom Green County.
