The once booming Texas economy is slowing down. The latest tax revenue report shows a one-percent growth over last year, which is slightly less than inflation. Bill King at Rice’s Baker Institute says we’ve seen huge growth for two-decades, and that’s now hit a plateau. King adds that the largest decline was in taxes collected from Big Oil. Production rates, he says, have been leveling off. The bottom line, he says, is that the state will have less cash to throw at property tax reform next legislative session.
