Texas Well Owners Network and the Tom Green County Horticulture extension office are teaming up to provide well water screening to test the water for bacteria because of the floods. The extension office is hosting the free well water screening on Wednesday, July 30, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday, July 31, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., at their office located at 113 W Beauregard Ave. The results will be given at a follow-up program on Friday, August 1, where team members will have one-on-one discussions about what the results mean to citizens. To take a sample, TWON recommends using an empty, new and clean drinking bottle and filling it with the well water. If it’s an outside faucet, just use the faucet closest to the well and not through a water hose. TWON says to wipe down the faucet with a Clorox wipe or a paper towel, let it dry, and then let the water run for a little bit before you take the sample. If it’s an in, if it’s a water faucet inside, follow the same process and remove the aerator filter, and let the water run for two minutes on full flow.
