Bishop Joe S. Vásquez, who was ordained as a priest in San Angelo in 1984, has been appointed by Pope Francis as the new Archbishop of Galveston-Houston. The 67-year-old succeeds Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, who retired after leading the Texas archdiocese since 2006. DiNardo led the archdiocese for nearly two decades, during which it became one of the largest in the country.
